Happy plane is happy

Hi! This is mostly a lurking/ reading journal :D. Please feel free to find me under the same user name on Livejournal or twitter, where I am currently varying degrees of active.
SPN: Dean - Reading is sexy
Fear my spam! Mwaaaa haaa haaa

- Photographer Slogan FAIL . I'm not sure if this is an offer or a threat.

- M and I have been watching Prison Break (as there is no fandom party I won't show up FAR too late for!). We are eight eps in. It is somewhat exciting in an occasionally stupid way!

Also, Wentworth Miller doesn't look especially human. He reminds me of those National Geographic specials about alligators. It's something about his "intense now" face. If REALLY hot lizard aliens took human form and invaded the earth, they would look like Wentworth Miller.

- The Heroes finale made my brain hurt. OW!

- I am absurdly excited about new Supernatural tomorrow! But also, sad that we're on our last few eps *clings*

-On SPN related notes: [personal profile] zabira introduces us all to the happy poly family antics of crazy that is our current take on J2 Over here . (There has been talk of STRIP CANDYLAND - via me - but you KNOW Jared would be all over that)

-[personal profile] meresy has pointed us towards The Internet Movie Firearms Database , and of course I go poking about for The Supernatural page (which even features a pic of Callum Hee). So, useful for research purposes, or just for oggling Sam and Dean with weapons.

-Sadly, there is no due South page, as yet *encourages*

- Someone needs to write This SG-1 plotbunny , y?

Obama, looking cool in our fandoms since 2008!

- I seem to be losing my voice, yet again. /FAIL\

If there is coding to be borked, rest assured that I will bork it!

In actual news: The Seattle trip! I have booked it! I shall be at an improbably swanky hotel (that happens to be running an absurd 50% of deal) from May 30th through June 1st. It's all non-refundable, so I can't even freak out and get my money back! Um, yay?!?!?

I haven't gone on a vacation in 5 years! And that involved road-tripping through the 1,000 miles of I-10 that runs through the widest part of TX to get from AZ to New Orleans.

In fannish news:

Wilby Wonderful was adorable! Thank you all very much for insisting I watch it *g*

Supernatural 4x19 - Jump the Shark )

Flashpoint 2x10 - Remote Control )

Psych: We are mid-season three. I find myself oddly annoyed by the total lack of blood on this show, but it's otherwise charming. Gus =awesome

I am also working my way through the third season of Homicide; Life on the Streets during The Commute of Doom. 'Tis a great show, y'all. I am on the edge of my crowded, uncomfortable bus seat every ep, and overly fond of absolutely everyone (TIMMY! Frank! Kay! Munch! Everyone else! also, TIMMY!) It's interesting to switch back and forth between this and dS, which is so random and wacky.

All of which seems to add up to me watching too much TV, perhaps?
(For tomorrow - Men with Brooms? For Those Who Hunt the Wounded Down? HCL is off the list until the copy I just bought gets here and I can force it upon unsuspecting people and squee quietly in the background)

ETA 2: sorry if I spoilered there! Cuts didn't crosspost! but edits do, getting rid of fixed cuts! See above, re: me/ coding

I am semi-committing to this Seattle venture! Before I put my money where my journal is, I need to do some mental scheduling, and therefore I inquire about:
[Poll #1385950]

Otherwise - I like spring! But I miss the cold-and-rain induced quiet of the past few months! Screaming children are made of fail. And they were out pressure washing the parking lot this afternoon. Who does that?
Photography: white flower
I assume we've all seen those recently unearthed pics of Callum and Paul that killed us dead , yes? The boys, they are needlessly hot, but the couch, needs to die a PAINFUL death. Turns out, something that eyesearing is easy to make gone on photoshop!

Now with less eyesearing abilities )

And some photography! Spring is a go! As is my mini-vacation! So me+M+camera = pics. If I'm ever done staring at Callum, they might get photoedited a bit, but for now, fresh off the camera.

Portland Japanese Garden, April 2009 )

On a less visual note: Flashpoint's "Between Heartbeats" (2x4? are we Canadian numbering out of a sense of fannish solidarity?)- nice work breaking my heart, show! (And wow, Ed. \hugh/)
Photography: white flower
Yep, I'm doing this post too!

I'm Sadiane over at dreamwidth . Please to be friending me (if you so desire) *clings to flist* I do fully intend to stick around LJ for a long, long time.

I predict massive friending memes in the near future.

(I am not a fan of the red color scheme. I hope we get more options that are not red)

side note, I'm also Sadiane over at Ravelry , on the off chance you want to talk about string instead of television.

Otherwise:
American Idol has GRATUITOUS harping (M remarks that the style 3 is an ugly harp). Also, I lose major queer points for not liking Bette Midler songs (a rose is NOT a bulb plant! Get your obnoxiously extended metaphor correct, people!)

Flashpoint continues to be MADE OF AWESOME. We're now 6 eps behind \FLAIL/

Seattle trip looking like a go? Maybe?
(I suppose I should go introduce myself to all the fangirls I've been meaning to get to know but have been too starstruck to talk too...)
Happy plane is happy
"Hey look, it's all sticky!"

(here now. well, not REALLY here, but soon. And for the rest of your life?)
C6D - Hugh in Flashpoint
FAIL
This entire Amazon Rank thing that we are all very upset by. Needless to say, I, too am upset by this! And likely NOT buying things from amazon for the foreseeable future, until this asshattery is remedied. Which is sad, as I throw a good deal of my disposable income in their general direction. I've got Powells available as an alternative for books (awesome and local and independent and everything), but I've come to rely heavily on Amazon for my TV-on-DVD addiction.

WIN, WIN, WIN
FLASHPOINT! I've been dragging my feet, waiting to get M to watch it with me. And we've been running Psych on our weekend marathons (done through season two). So, after an abortive attempt to enjoy The Office (SO not working for us), we dropped in the first few eps of Flashpoint and are rather predictably enamored! And done with season one. Or through 1x9, depending on who is numbering things where.

\Hugh/ and \Enrico/ (who I've always been fond of, first on Just Shoot Me, and then on Veronica Mars), and I even like the Power Ranger (my sister used to LOVE that show!), and everyone else as well. It's all well paced and wonderfully written and it's tense and makes you care so much about all of the characters. There's TEAM And a whole lot of pretty, plus my 'Gateverse fangirl's Pavlovian reaction to thigh holsters....

(C6D owns my soul. I even went and got myself a Hugh-as-Ed icon)

WORTH LOOKING FORWARD TO
I'm only working three days next week! And then have a long weekend off for [livejournal.com profile] me_maneuver's and my seventh anniversary. As I am old and married-ish. We've got Joel McHale tickets and no further plans. There was something about tea parties?
Photography: sunset light
*must remember to talk at the journal* I'm always here, after all

-Sign number eleventy million that I have been reading too much due South post -COTW quest fic: breakfast today consisted of tea (via [livejournal.com profile] kat_lair, from the UK and everything) and beef jerky. It seemed perfectly normal at the time...

-I had somehow forgotten the level of slash in dS "The Blue Line". I thought perhaps I was conflating canon with fic, or that I had dreamed the entire thing. (ps. Anyone have favorite Fraser/ Smithbaur fics? There's that missing scene and everything)

- aside to [livejournal.com profile] china_shop. This mer-thing. More complicated than predicted. In progress

-the company at which I work has recently passed out an updated, 300+ page edition of the emergency procedures guide. It includes suggestions "in case of the Rapture". (We should be sure to turn off the computers of our heaven-bound coworkers!)

I don't even watch The Office , but I can imagine apocafic in that fandom would be similarly awkward and hilarious?

- the second season of Homicide:Life on the Streets makes me REALLY wish there was a big shiny fandom to go with it. I was going to be okay just watching the show for the show's sake, and then they give us "A Many Splendored Thing" (2x3?, 2x4?), and yes....

-There is SPN crack about!
I raised you from perdition...oh, look, STRING! )

-I am burning the first disc worth of Flashpoint right now! \Hugh/

Finally, a poll
Last fall, it looked like [livejournal.com profile] me_maneuver and I were going to have to move to a different apartment when our lease ran out on June 1st. So, I managed to wrangle to first week of June off work. And then the apartment complex's relocate and remodel plan got canceled, and I find myself with a week of PTO and nothing unpleasant I have to do with it!

M suggested a quick (2-3 day) jaunt up to Seattle. As we really haven't spent any time in that large north western metropolis, and there seems to be a startlingly awesome collection of dS fen in the vicinity

[Poll #1381864]
Due South- Ray's Tie
OMG AWESOME:

[profile] nos4a2no9 has written me fic! Adorable, grin-inducing Ray K fic! In which there is much sweetness. Read and tell her how awesome she is Ray's Life (So Far) (Fraser/ Kowalski - R)

to [personal profile] kat_lair - I'm working on it, I swear

Actually Finished:
So, once upon a time, I decided to knit [personal profile] sol_se a Merlin inspired scarf, perhaps for Christmas. So I found a dragon-y pattern, dug the yarn out of the stash, and started knitting. And knitting. AND knitting (turns out, lace + smallish needles + light DK weight yarn + nearly 8 and a half feet of scarf = takes a long time to knit. Who knew?)

And so I finally got around to sending it to her (for spring? IDK.) Therefor, I can show the pictures to y'all as well.

The Slash Dragon Scarf of Destiny )

Totally perplexing to me:
Gmail is trying to sell me Personalized Romance Novels! . Erm...
You know you've ALWAYS wanted to drop $50 to have a computer find/replace you into a mediocre Mary Sue pirate porn novel.

I assume this would make an amazingly embarrassing gift at a bachelorette party? Or good for stalkers...

(I always though this is what we had fanfiction.net for?)

Coming Down to the Deadline:
Sweet Charity ! Due to the perplexing nature of time, I am not quite certain when this thing is going to be concluded, but I do know that it is sometime in the next 24 hours!

Go forth and be pervy for a good cause! I'm sure any fic you purchase will be better than the aforementioned self-insert pirate porn! And it will help people, too!
Due South- Fraser on white
I only think in bullet points anymore...

-my corners of the interwebs have been very quiet this weekend. Y'all out there?

-Seen various places, this website estimates your gender based on internet browsing history. I got the following result:

Likelihood of you being FEMALE is 11%
Likelihood of you being MALE is 89%

Hmmmm... based on the numbers, it seems that I REALLY throw these things off with my tendency to randomly go all "research mode" on technology websites. Also, upload sites skew "male" more often than not...

- M and I caught Bo Burnham's Comedy Central hour last night - the kid's pretty funny (he's 18, so I can call him a kid).

But we were watching the LATE NIGHT OMG UNCENSORED version, and were perplexed to find it still censored. But only in one place. Suddenly, they don't cut references to child molestation, kinky underaged sex, dirty math jokes, or the word "motherfucker", but felt the need to bleep And love is the Holocaust, if you don't die quick and you don't get thinner and left out an entire verse about Anne Frank. ( Full Lyrics to 'Love Is...', if you want to read)

Now, I get that this is a touchy subject (hell, I've been repeatedly harassed by our local scary skin-headed Neo-Nazi population for looking as obviously Jewish as I do), but is it the sort of thing we cut out completely all of a sudden? In comparison to the rest of the special, I didn't find these references to be especially offensive - he's definitely of the South Park style of humor, where he's offending EVERYONE at some point. Or I am just being totally insensitive jerk here?

- I managed to fight off the Mary Kay cosmetics women who had taken over my apartment complex's office and retrieve my package containing my complete Headstones discography \HUGH/. They REALLY didn't want to hand the thing over without informing me of my lipgloss options and how nail color could improve my life. I imagine Hugh would be amused?

- I also watched a hell of a lot of television that I likely should be talking about, since that's what I usually tend to do here....hightlights include: Durham County, Homicide:Life on the Streets, Due South, and Supernatural 4x17 )

- M and I may go see Monsters vs. Aliens, as we are suckers for that sort of thing. We STILL haven't made it to Watchmen ....
SPN: Dean's Hands/ Gun
Things which are instantly charming:

-Castle! I just tuned in for Nathan Fillion, but I enjoyed the entire hour. The character was really interesting, a lot of the jokes were rather funny, and we even got some creative gore. It's sort of like Bones, except I believe the characterization a bit more.

Does anyone have the slightest clue where Fillion picked up that drawling accent? Is there a secret pocket of Arkansas up in Edmonton?

- Psych! (Yes, I'm like two years late to this here party.) Just watched the pilot. Am instantly fond. Even if they are failing pretty hard at convincing me Vancouver looks like Santa Barbara. "Let's just drive 20 minutes from Southern California and end up in a Pacific NW rainforest, Shawn."

Things which I continue to be charmed by:

- There are flowers popping up all around town! Flowers make me happy - I've got this little map in my head of all the trees that have bloomed along my route to work. Even if it was snowing rather absurdly on Monday: I feel a little like Victoria Metcalf every time I spend the morning shaking snowflakes out of my hair.

-Hugh Dillon! The Headstones! The Hugh Dillon Redemption Choir (which I may secretly like a little bit better, unless there are objections to this). I am WAY too amused by unexpected harmonica solos.

- I still love Supernatural! I shall always love Supernatural! OMG, Dean ! And Sam ! And all the ways the show so so much darker and hurtier than the fanfic. *Wants so badly for things to work out for the boys, knows this is likely never going to happen*

In this spirit, a poll:

[Poll #1365729]
Photography: snow cat
Things which are WIN:

AKA, my continuing decent into C6D fandom, let me show it to you

-March! It makes be believe that the fleeting time of not-quite-so-damn-cold shall someday arrive!

- The Headstones . ARE AWESOME. As you probably already knew.
You know how, most of the time, when you grab the products of celebrity's musical ventures, it's sort of embarrassing? (*cough*Paul Gross*cough*James Marsters* cough*). Where it's sort of the musical version of getting dragged to a Poetry Slam by someone you've had a crush on for years and years? Nope, not here (perhaps because The Headstones were a band first and Hugh Dillon was an actor later)

I'm not quite sure what I was expecting (perhaps Hard Core Logo , but not really?), but this is much better - subtle and nuanced and interesting and smart. I've had "Nickels For Your Nightmares" on repeat for two days now. Also, it turns out Itunes has the Hugh Dillon Redemption Choir album! *syncs Ipod*

- The rest of Slings & Arrows! ALSO AWESOME. possible vague spoilage. Also, flailing )

- Started Twitch City. Somehow, I did not know that Molly Parker was this cute and endearing and red-haired and freckled. I've always thought she was beautiful, since Deadwood and Six Feet Under, but she always seems so polished and refined. Twitch City is like Molly Parker as the best of Willow Rosenburg, circa season 3, and it's the cutest thing ever!

(Also, Newbie!)

Things which crack me up:
- LJ just sent me an email reminder for my own birthday. You know, just in case?

- Trust Me, the new show on TNT with Eric McCormack and Tom Cavanagh, about Chicago ad execs, possibly the SLASHIEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE. examples )

Thing I do not understand:
in which I have fandom-related confusion )
Due South: Paul Gross Sunset
Reason one thousand, five hundred and eleventy one why I should not be permitted to live alone: I completely neglected to turn on the heat today.

Wherein I am all rhetorical about this lapse in judgment )

I suppose I can blame ALL of this on picking up Slings and Arrows . I'm four eps in -falling behind, I KNOW, I KNOW, but I don't want to rush it, because, as per usual , I AM IN LOVE .

OMG, Geoffrey Tennant! How so marvelous? It is like you have your own gravitational force of attraction. You are like the sun, and I, in the shade, PINE for you.

It's PAUL, with his stunning moody ocean eyes, and his river-rock smooth Canadian voice, and his introspective monologue thing where everything in his head comes through, but there's also ALL that fire and madness that Fraser never showed us...

Also, my desire to twine my fingers in his hair and pull is nearing the level of COMPULSION.

Um, for those of you who knew me back before I was overwhelmed by all things Paul Gross related - Stargate Universe Casting information . It's actually shaping up to look like a FAR FAR better show than I had dared anticipate. I'm adding an SGU tag and everything, that's how optimistic I am!
Due South - Fraser/Vecchio
Today's my posting day for the F/V Valentine's Month Celebration over at [community profile] ds_closet. I offer up fanart (as per usual!).

Two scrapbook pages, plus base manips (less "manip" and more "image recontextualization") , from Benny and Ray's Italian getaway!

Cut for large images that might bust your coding, absurdly worksafe )

OMG YAYS

Feb. 24th, 2009 01:30 pm
Supernatural - Wincest
Via [personal profile] twasadark (who I think is friends with EVERYONE, but just in case)

The CW renews Supernatural for Season 5!!!
Smallville, too, but I don't watch that

We get another whole year! Kripke gets to tell us the whole story he's claimed to have planned out since the pilot!

More importantly, Jared and Jensen get a convenient excuse to keep living together and being insanely adorable and happy-making. *Makes sure tinhat is in position after flaily dance of renewal joy*
Due South - Fraser/Vecchio
Thing I am aware is ironical: Eating boxed, instant risotto while working on Vecchio-related fandom-ness. Its pretty decent. No member of the Vecchio family would approve!

Things I wish I were more ironical about:

My inability to not love hair metal. How can I even pretend at hipster cool when I grin like an idiot about Def Leopard. This, of course, prompted by [personal profile] sdwolfpup's vid Pour Some Sugar On Me , which someone directed me to from the aforementioned rec meme. (dS, Fraser/ various female characters) Hot like burning. Seriously, does Paul Gross get HOTTER every time I look away for like 2 seconds?

My unabashed enthusiasm about The CW having picked up LJ Smith's 'Vampire Diaries' as a series . Sure, it's the CW's lame effort to cash in on Twilight , but these were my favorite books when I was 12! my teen-aged vampire novel squee )

Also:
Hey, look, House/Wilson, relevant again!

And I miss my wife. She's in Vegas. *pouts* Love means never having to attempt to work a pair of scissors.
SGA Gen - Atlantis sunrise
So, with the happy making:

- vsee's dS rec-a-thon . [personal profile] vsee (and others) will be donating $1 to various humane societies for every rec'er who posts (up to 50, so there are still spots left if you want to join in). Yay for happy making fics, a great cause, and recapturing our fandom joy. *hugs dS fen*.

-See also: [personal profile] pentapus's adorable drawing of Fraser and Kowalski and coffee *dies of cute*

- I am on vacation next week! Yay for not waking up at 5:30 am, and dragging myself to work in the dark. I am planning nothing besides reading a lot of fic and watching Slings and Arrows (on [personal profile] zabira's insistence. Whole series ready to go Z! *g*) and generally being an antisocial nerd.

- We're down to our last few eps of Farscape (two discs +Peacekeeper Wars). I've really enjoyed the show, but for some reason it just doesn't grab me and make me never want to let it go.

- Have decided to rent Psych next. I hear good things?

- So, Battlestar? Y'all seem divided on this last ep! I, for one, LOVED it, possibly more than I've ever loved BsG before. spoilers )

- The preview for SPN 4x15 Death Takes a Holiday , complete with Chris motherfucking Heyerdahl! (SGA's Todd the Wraith, Sanctuary's John Druiit, generally awesome, and his VOICE!). I know a lot of people are bothered by the direction this show seems to be headed, but I'm IN LOVE with ALL of the plotlines (even the het ones *hides*), and totally a-squee about the ep.

ETA: Also girlscout cookies! I have thin mints! They are COOKIE SLUTS

Less happy about:

-Dollhouse 1x2; spoilers )

-The Dead Like Me movie. I went in totally unspoiled for the recasting of Daisy, and the new actress just didn't work for me - she was missing a lot of Daisy's naive charm.

Also, there's this meme thing going about:

'Comment to this post and I will give you 5 subjects/things I associate you with. Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given'.

[personal profile] kat_lair associated me with the following five things

and wow, did I talk too much about them! )

This entry went on FOREVER :D
Due South: Paul Gross Sunset
As reported in various places on the news, Obama is in Canada. As we all know, Canada has Mounties. As reported various places on my flist, Obama is with the mounties in Canada . As we all know, I have a favorite Mountie.

And I have photoshop.

Therefor, I have felt the need to provide the interwebs with the following visual:

In Icon form:

And in a larger size )

As always, snag away. Customizable upon request.
Photography: Manlove
For no reason I can determine, I have been "awarded" a free subscription to the sort of gay-themed men's magazine that is mailed to me in an opaque wrapper (not porn, as such, but containing some suggestive content). I am perplexed! It's not so much that I object to ads featuring a pair of skinny, pretty, scantily clad young men straddling or licking a small tree (I think it's selling me sunglasses? IDK). I am just concerned that my post-office delivery person is going to think I am a pervert. Which I am. Just not in a postal delivery-type manner....

In other things making me happy news:

-speaking of postal delivery, [livejournal.com profile] kat_lair received her package, so I can show y'all pictures of the scarf: the scarf on chair shot, Cable detail , and Hey, look, now she's getting all "artistic" . (fellow knitters/crocheters: if you are on Ravelry , I just got set up - I'm Sadiane over there, too. And it looks like a great dorky crafting resource.)

- 4 more days to my vacation! M and her mother are going off galavanting in Las Vegas. I am remaining home with the cat and the laptop and steadfastly refusing to leave the house for five days (fun! For real!) Plans so far involve lots of fanfic, and possibly "Slings and Arrows". Or "Twitch City". Or both, depending on if I want to sleep a lot. Any of my C6D people feel like making a case one way or the other?

-People seem to be remaining highly civil in the current dS kerfuffle. I am attempting to stay out of it - I'm too multishipper for OTP/ pairing superiority-type flailing. Plus, I love ALL of them in ALL permutations....

- I shall also point out that this has been an AMAZING WEEK for podfic, and direct y'all to the following examples:

[livejournal.com profile] general_jinjur's reading of [livejournal.com profile] resonant8's Teeth of the Hydra . (dS, Fraser/Ray K). SGA podfic fans all know and love Jinjur's recordings, and it's interesting to hear her read in a different fandom. Fascinating story, Kowalski-centric, sweet and funny and sad and hot, like all of Resonant's fic.

[livejournal.com profile] nos4a2no9's recording of [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza's The Border Between Life and Death . (dS, Fraser/ Ray K). Nos knows of my absurd fondness for her podfic recordings. Somehow, she "gets" Kowalski in a way that works for me every time. Try running these two stories back to back: it gets you two VERY different but brilliantly drawn takes on Kowalski.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] rheanna27's recording of her Big Bang story, The Hard Prayer (SGA, John/Rodney). This story is amazing , an apocafic AU with all sorts of interesting insights into these beloved characters. Her John and her Rodney are SO messed up and so heartbreakingly believable, and you just sit there and WANT for them. Plus, her voice is gorgeous! (The accents get me every time)

- On my TV tonight- "House": I am not sure when this happened, but Kutner and Taub have become my favorite part of the show. I don't ship them, at all, but I tune in every week to watch them interact and try to figure each other out. Also, Dr. Chase: please to be taking a bath! It's less "hot scruffy guy" and more "homeless guy, could be pretty after decontamination?"
